I've been pondering some things for a while and have finally decided to write it down. Here in Nicaragua I see so many people focused on the outward appearance. It really is amazing how much importance they place on how they look! One time, we were ministering to a boy in the hospital and had taken a woman with us. When we were about to drop her off back at her house, she started freaking out and asking us if we had some water in the car or a rag. When I asked why she showed me a mark that was on her skirt and she didn't want to leave the car until she got it off. I asked, "Why?" Her reply blew me away... she said, " I am a christian, I can't be seen with this on my skirt - what would people say?" Several months later, this same woman had left her husband and beautiful little boy to go live with another man. She had been so focused on what others might think and with her outward appearance, she didn't look at the inside or take time to get that area cleaned up. The sad part is, I don't blame her alone. The truth is that she was a young convert to Christianity and someone within the church had obviously imposed their views on her about what a christian is. Making her think that if she is a christian, "looking" like one was the most important thing. This is just one example I've seen of the legalistic views of the church here. I guess my point in all of this is, that the things going on inside of you are so much more important than the outward things. The Bible says that it isn't the outward things that make us unclean, it's the things that come out of our hearts. Let's all do the world a favor and take some time to check our hearts. Let's all take inventory of what is on the inside, so that we can be the light to the world around us. CommentsThey say that comments are a blogger's paycheck, so I wanted to check in and reward you.
